Our Grandmother Mildred Louise "Weissmann" Kiggins, was born on September 14th 1927 in Hempstead, New York to Wolfgang & Hannah Weissmann, who were of German and Swedish descent, respectively. During 1920s, they immigrated to US via Ellis Island.
Grandma was the eldest of 2 children, her brother being Robert Weissmann. She and her family had an exciting, distinguished, and privileged upbringing while raised on Bradley Estate New York where our great grandfather Wolfgang was head groundskeeper for, followed by serving Rockefeller family in similar capacity.
Our great grandmother Hannah taught our grandmother Millie, and her brother Robert, many life skills including importance of tradition, pride, education, sacrifice, and hard work, as well as how to knit as a hobby.
Grandma attended Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska and graduated in 1947. From there she moved back to the New York Area where she worked as executive secretary for couple of multinational corporations including AMF and American Cyanamid Corporation (now known as Lederle Labs) where she served in executive administration for almost 10 years.
In 1961 she met our Grandfather Andrew Kiggins and they married in early 1962. They had their first son Dan in Nov of 1962 and second son David in Apr 1964. During this time the family resided in Stamford and Brookfield Connecticut.
In 1972 the family relocated to Plantation Florida where Grandma worked for various companies as a Researcher. Going from the harsh winters of New England to the extreme humidity of South Florida was not an easy adjustment, so in 1977 the family relocated to California, settling in Almaden. Grandma would live in the San Jose area until 2002. California was long a dream destination for her, who had long heard about it from friends and colleagues. It was in California that Grandma gained her 3 beloved grandsons, Michael in 1993, Matt in 1994 and Paul in 2001.
In 2003 she purchased a home in Tracy to be closer to her 2 sons, who had also moved to Tracy. For 25 years she worked for Dr. Andy Becker, holding various positions within the research field. In her spare time Millie loved to care for her dogs, altogether having 7 dogs in her lifetime.
Grandma also loved going to the beach, particularly Carmel by the Sea. During the Holidays, she went all out for her family with decorative dinners and presents, plus her traditional ordering of cookies/sweets from her beloved Solvang.
Grandma was a passionate, devoted Lutheran and loved the bible, as well as listening to sermons from Dr Charles Stanley. She passionately followed her SF 49ers (though most of her family loved the Miami Dolphins).
She was a loving grandmother who cared deeply about her grandsons' lives. Grandma was known for her delicious cooking and special blend of homemade applesauce she made after picking apples from apple trees in CT. She also raised multiple cats and bred them in CT in late 1960s starting with her beloved Siamese cat Pam.
Grandma passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept 24th 2025 at 98. She is survived by her remaining family, her son Dan, Daughter in Law Rungthip, and grandsons Matt, Michael, and Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents Wolfgang and Hannah in 1969 and 1998 respectively, her beloved son David in 2017, husband Andy in 2020, and her brother Bob in 2021. She was also very devoted to her many dogs which preceded her starting with Tina in 1984, followed by multiple additional dogs she loved so very much including Gigi, Brandy, Shelby, and Maggie.
Grandma was absolutely beloved and cherished by all her knew her for her relentless independence, determination, strength, generosity, faith, and unconditional love.
Godspeed and God bless you Grandma for all you did, and for all you were to so many. We rejoice knowing you are now forever reunited with beloved family, friends, and colleagues for all eternity. With endless thanks, gratitude, appreciation, respect, and love. We will all miss you
