Mildred LaMarche Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home - Westerly on Mar. 17, 2026.
Please share your favorite memory of Mildred Louise "Millie" LaMarche to be included in a special keepsake book for the family.

"We had a good time, didn't we?" "Yes, Mildred "Millie" Louise Furey LaMarche, we did!" Our sweet Mom and Gramma fell into eternal sleep on March 15th, age 93. We were Blessed to have her presence for all these years.

Born in Providence Rhode Island in 1932 to George and Mildred Furey, her early years were spent in Riverside and Cranston until the construction of Interstate 95 required the removal of their home. The family returned to her beloved Wequetequock and "Peanut" became a proud Bears cheerleader, graduating with the Stonington High School Class of 1951.

While working at Vars Pharmacy in Westerly, she would first meet her future husband Jerome R. LaMarche and later go on a blind date set up by his brother Phil and wife Barbara.
They were joined in marriage at Saint Michael the Archangel Church in 1955. The family home on Moss Street in Pawcatuck was filled with children and friends for over 30 years.

Millie was a descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims John and Elizabeth Tilley and William and Ann Brewster, a descendant and member of George and Ann Denison Homestead Society, and a proud member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Abigail Hinman Chapter Stonington.

She retired from the Washington Trust Company after 50 years. She traveled to Europe to see her children in the military service, to California to see her son and grandchildren, and even embarked on a cross-country road trip with her daughter. Those adventures always ended with her saying, "We had a good time, didn't we?"

Millie was a wonderful mother to Suzanne (Earl) Matteson of Pawcatuck and sons, John of Lompoc, California, Thomas of Lebanon CT, George of Mystic, CT, and Paul "Bill" (Colleen) of Pawcatuck; the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren, as well as five great-grandchildren; and her favorite puppy Skunky. She also leaves her many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Jerome; sister Dorothy Furey, brothers-in-law, William Hopkins and Rudy Pelchat, and brother James Furey and sister-in-law Jennie Venturini.

"Yes we did, Mom!" Her absence will leave an unimaginable void, but the memories will last a lifetime for all of us. Please join us in remembering Millie.
Visiting hours will be held from 4pm -6pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11am on Tuesday, March 24 at St. Michael Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center in memory of Millie.
