Mildred Locke

Mildred "Muffie" Locke, 68 of Guilford passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Muffie was born in Holyoke, MA on November 14th, 1955 to the late Harry Fleming and Polly Lyman and was the 2nd of 4 children. Survived by her spouse – Bill Rappoport of Guilford, CT. Children – Kenneth Chamberlin (Brittany) of Summerville, SC, and Andrew Locke (Lauren) of West Haven, CT. Siblings – Ruth Fleming (Joey Benoit) of Townshend, VT, Harry Fleming of Newport, ME, and Holly Fleming (Edward Marrinan) of West Townshend, VT. Nephews and niece – Ted Marrinan, Scotty Fleming, James Fleming, and Krissy Marrinan. And finally Ducky, her beloved Golden Doodle.
Muffie spent her early childhood in Swanzey, NH and formative years in Essex Junction, VT having graduated from the Essex Junction Educational Center in 1973. She then pursued nursing and graduated from Keene State College. She developed an enriching nursing career starting in the neonatal ICU serving at-risk infants and their families where her passion for caregiving truly blossomed. Muffie then pursued nursing administration at Gaylord Hospital and deepened her career. She moved to Guilford, CT in 1996 where she would remain a resident for 28 years. During a nursing conference around that time she was introduced to the path of expert medical consulting, and opened up Unity Consulting Group serving plaintiffs and defense law firms in medical malpractice cases where she found great success.
Muffie was a talented artist of many crafts including painting, stained glass, jewelry, and knitting. Upon retiring, she pursued a master's degree in holistic health and became a reiki master. She spent much of her retirement years painting or creating with her arts and crafts, playing with Ducky, or even simply listening to a storm in the solarium.
Most importantly, Muffie's life was about others. She was deeply involved in a recovery community for over 35 years and touched countless lives with her compassionate and healing heart. She poured herself into the wellness and betterment of all who graced her presence. A simple smile or a loving gaze was just enough to lift your sorrows and ease your burdens. She lived to heal and was blessed with the gift of a heart with no bottom, always willing to exhaust all the deep love that she had into another to build them up. She raised two boys into fine men who carry the generational legacy of her three most important teachings to them – service to others, utmost integrity, and passion for purpose. Although our hearts are broken, and missing Muffie will have no end, the echoes of her life's loving touches will remain strong and steadfast for eternity. We are honored to know the loving, playful, intelligent, beautiful woman that Muffie was, and how touched and blessed all of us were to simply be in her warm presence for so long. When we miss her we'll close our eyes and feel her spirit, patiently waiting for us in the blueberry fields with all of her loving energy she was known for.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, April 26 at 6:00 PM in The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven.
