Mildred Mihalik (née Benyak), age 101, of
Parma, Ohio, passed away on February 9, 2026. She was born on October 9, 1924, in
Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised on a farm in Medina, where she learned the values of hard work, care for others, and devotion to home and family that guided her throughout her life.
Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Julius Mihalik, a World War II naval veteran whom she proudly married upon his return from service. During the war, Mildred herself contributed to the nation's efforts, working in Washington, D.C., an experience she always remembered with pride.
She was the devoted mother of Jennifer Bognar, and mother-in-law to Ernest Bognar. Mildred was a cherished grandmother to Kristen Mehall (née Bognar) and her husband Nicholas Mehall, and Michael Bognar. Great-grandmother to Ann, Kate, Megan, and Nicholas Mehall Jr.
A faithful parishioner of St. Columbkille Parish since 1965.
She was especially known for her cooking and baking, with her beloved lemon and apple pies becoming treasured family favorites. Her garden and home were meticulously cared for, reflecting the pride she took in creating a welcoming place for others. Mildred loved hosting dinner parties and family gatherings, a joy she continued well into her 90s, always happiest when those she loved were gathered around her table.
Above all, Mildred was the ultimate caregiver. Her home was her comfort and her joy-a place of warmth and love. She was deeply devoted to her daughter and family, and her quiet strength and steady presence shaped generations.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Florence Benyak; her husband, Julius Mihalik; and her siblings, Walter, Clarence, and Virginia Gall. She leaves behind a legacy of love, hospitality, faith, and devotion that will be remembered always.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Serenity Hospice and The Avenue of Brooklyn staff for their compassionate, loving care and support.
