Mildred Steen Orr

Mildred Ann Steen Orr (Millie), 94, of Gainesville, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Gardens of Gainesville. She was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to parents Virgil and Muriel Steen. She was the third of five children growing up on the family farm.

After graduating from Plano High School, she attended North Dallas State College before her marriage to Boyd M. Orr. Soon afterwards Millie and Boyd began their family with a daughter, twin sons and another son.

Millie was a loving and supportive wife as her husband worked and attended Southern Methodist University until his graduation. Millie and Boyd lived in Dallas, TX until he was transferred to Atlanta in 1969. After raising their family and Boyd’s retirement, they moved to the Lake Lanier area and enjoyed a few years of retirement. Boyd was diagnosed with glioblastoma and passed in 1993.

Being the self-sufficient, independent and optimistic soul that she was, Millie carried on and kept busy with church activities, bowling, visiting extended family in Dallas and keeping up with her ever-growing number of grandchildren.

Millie faced life with its joys and heartbreaks with courage, never wavering in her faith and being the solid matriarch of her family. Millie greatly loved her family and never turned down an opportunity to look after her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her loving husband Boyd M. Orr, parents, brothers Bill & Jack Steen, sister Betty Steen Clark, and son Frank B. Orr.

She is survived by daughter Kathy O. Johnson, daughter-in-law Jan I. Orr, sons Blake Orr (Angie) and Brent Orr (Christina); grandchildren Ryan Johnson, Renee O. Hilley (Nathan), Scott Orr (Lindsay); Travis Johnson (Katie Gile), Sarah O. Phipps (Jackson), Jacob Orr, Jack Orr (Kristen), Jenna Orr, Delia Mayville, Daria Mayville and Daphne Mayville. Seven great-grandchildren also survive: Luke Johnson, Anna Hilley, Chloe Hilley, Molly Orr, Evie Orr, Noah Hilley and Claire Phipps.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
