Mildred Ortiz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - Bloomfield on Feb. 5, 2022.
Mildred Luz Ortiz (64) was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on July 16, 1957, to Maria Isabel Sanchez and the late Jose "Pepe" Astacio Leon (2009). She was the second child out of a total of 8. She lived the majority of her life in Hartford, CT where she was known as "Titi Mildred" by most of her community because she had a heart of gold and an open-door policy. No matter where she lived or the time of day it was, her door was always opened to help anyone in need. She never discriminated against anyone and offered help to anyone who asked.
Mildred's love language was shown through her food. She would make her famous rice, which was known for curing many aches, pains, broken hearts and could solve many of life's problems. She believed that you couldn't solve your problems on an empty stomach, so she made sure it was full to the brim.
One of the many reasons Mildred was so well loved was because there was never a question of where you stood with her. She was very verbal with her feelings, no matter what they were. To have been blessed with her presence was to know tough love, emphasis on the love because as she always would say. "I tell it like it is. I don't need to lie."
Mildred loved all of her 5 children but her 12 grandchildren and her 5 great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her favorite job was being a grandmother which is what brought her the most joy in her life. Mildred entered her eternal rest on January 25,2022 with her husband and children by her side and became an angel for her family and friends.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Jose Algarin of 13 years; children, Janner Ortiz Jr (Carmina), Betsy L. Ortiz, Danny Ortiz, Shanika Harold (John), and Natasha Flores; mother, Maria Isabel Sanchez; sisters, Iris Pagan (William), Debbie Astacio, Norma Rodriguez (Danny) and Jodie Mann (Richard); and brothers Jose Rodriguez (Wanda) and Jose Leon along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends turned into family.
She goes to join her father Jose "Pepe" Astacio (2009) and sister Gertrude (Trudy) Raymond (2017).
Her memory will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.
