Mildred "Millie" Edith Otto, 90, a resident of the Cove Orchard community passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024 at her home.
Millie was born on September 1, 1933 in Live Oak, CA. Millie was one of six children born to Emory Ellis Elam and Atha Thelma (Eichler) Elam.
In 1947 the family moved to Gresham, OR where she met her future husband James "Jim" Otto through her brother Eddie Elam. They courted for a year and were married on September 25, 1953 in Gresham, OR. They made their home in Gresham until 1955, then moved to Beaverton, OR for a year. In 1957 they moved to Fort Rock, OR and a year later they moved their growing family to Toppenish, WA.
In 1961 they moved back to Oregon and lived in Forest Grove and Glenwood for a period of time and then decided to make their home in Hillsboro, OR where they lived until 2002, then moved to their new home in Cove Orchard, OR. They were members of R.E.A.L. Life Church in Hillsboro and after Jim's passing, Millie attended Yamhill Christian Church.
Millie worked as a bookkeeper for Hamby Chevrolet in Hillsboro and Moak Chevrolet in Canby, OR. Millie started working at the City of Cornelius and held the position of Recorder-Treasurer until her retirement in 1997.
Millie loved to travel in their fifth wheel with Jim and they would spend weeks at the beach relaxing and just enjoying each others company. Millie enjoyed going to the drag races at PIR and Woodburn drag strip where the family raced their car. Millie loved all animals especially cats and she loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds, she was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to "Old Country" music, she enjoyed working on word puzzles of any sort, was learning how to quilt and worked on diamond dots with her special friend Louise Stinnett.
Millie loved her family wholeheartedly and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her extended family the Strode's.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; son, Mark Otto; brothers Lou, Eddie and Larry Elam.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Gary and Jamie Otto of Hillsboro, Ed Otto of Cove Orchard, John and Kathy Bowers of Camas, WA, brother Danny Elam and sister Toni (Elam) Pinkston. Nine grandchildren, Chris, Amanda, Kylee, Allen, Amy, Angie, Brenda, Susan, Jessica and eighteen great grandchildren.
