Mildred E. (Bunch) Reed (nee Smilek), age 91, died Saturday, February 22, 2025. Millie was born May 6, 1933 in Akron and had lived in Coventry Twp. since 1936. She was a graduate of Coventry High School and received a Bachelor of Music Education from Baldwin-Wallace College and a Master of Education from Kent State University. She was a public school music teacher for over 30 years in the Coventry and Springfield Local School Districts retiring in 1986.
A professional violinist, she retired from the Akron Symphony Orchestra after 30 years of service and was also a member of the Akron Pops Orchestra and the Festival String Quartet.
While at Baldwin-Wallace, Millie was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and Mu Phi Epsilon music honorary. She was a past president of the Coventry Alumni Association and was the secretary of the Portage Lakes Community Council.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Reed; parents, Martin and Elizabeth Smilek; brothers, Dr. Martin (who has the Northwest High School Football Stadium named after him) and Milton Smilek; She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes private burial has taken place at Canal Fulton Cemetery.
