Mildred Jordan Ricks, born on August 28, 1964, in her parents home at 1319 N. Broadway in Baltimore, Maryland, peacefully passed away on July 11, 2025, at the age of 60. She passed away at her residence, leaving behind a legacy as warm and comforting as a home-cooked meal.
For 25 glorious years, Mildred was a beloved fixture at UNCG Dining Services, where she served up not just meals but also hearty doses of love and laughter. Known affectionately as the cafeteria's auntie, she had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel like family-whether you needed advice, a hug, or just a second helping of mashed potatoes.
When she wasn't charming students with her wit and wisdom, Mildred could be found knocking down pins at the bowling alley, engrossed in her favorite TV stories, or spending cherished time with her family. Her knack for cracking jokes was only rivaled by her talent for singing hymns, and she found immense joy and solace in prayer.
Mildred was preceded in death by her late husband, Elmer Ricks, her loving parents, Robert Jordan and Magnolia Cunningham Jordan, and her brothers, Robert Cunningham and Clipper Jordan. She is survived by her siblings Lonnie Cunningham (Anita), Peggy Oliver (Joseph), James Ragland (Gerty), Lois Ward, Mary Jordan, Tracy Seldon (Keith), along with her great-niece Naima Blakely (Emile), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though services will be held at a later date, we invite all who knew her to remember Mildred with a smile and a shared story. In her honor, let us continue to spread kindness, laughter, and perhaps even a little sass.
"I love you with all my heart." To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Mildred, please visit our floral store.
