"…yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and vanishes." James 4:14 (KJ)

Mildred C. Roane went peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, September 1, 2025. She was born February 25, 1926, in Shumansville, Virginia to loving and caring parents, the late Warner Childs, Jr. and Clara Washington Childs.

Mildred, along with her brothers and sisters grew up on a family farm in Virginia. She was the third of nine children in a nurturing, loving, and Christian faith-based family. There she learned to appreciate the value and reward of hard work. Mildred's early educational instruction was at the File School. Later, she graduated from Union High School. Mildred accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at her family's place of worship, Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Milford, Virginia. She was an active member, joining Sunday School and the youth ministry along with her siblings under the careful guidance of Reverend. Lawson.

After graduation, Mildred moved to the Upper Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia to join her uncles and aunts on her father side. She soon started fellowship at Saints Memorial Baptist Church, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania under the leadership of Reverend Younger. She was active as an usher and remained a passionate member until she became ill.

While in Wayne, Pennsylvania she met and married William Roane, Jr., who was the love of her life, and they made a beautiful home in Paoli, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was an excellent cook. Her family was always welcome in her home, as she enjoyed entertaining both friends and family alike. When not busy with her home, she would assist her husband with his excavation business.

After the death of her parents, she became the caregiver to her sister, Evon. Mildred was a devoted sister, providing compassionate and unwavering care to her sister for over sixty years. She will be remembered for her dedication, kindness, and lasting impact on her dear sister, Evon.

A woman of substance, Mildred was always ready for a trip to Lord and Taylor or try a new recipe. She was an avid gardener with a large flower garden in the back of her house in Paoli.

"Aunt Mildred" treasured her nieces and nephews. Her family will remember her soft, tender laugh, her warm smile, and strong disposition.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband William Roane, Jr., her brothers William Franklin Childs, Sr., Francis Childs, and Howard R. Childs, Sr., in addition to two sisters, Hazel C. Freeman and Doris C. James.

She leaves to cherish her memory, the following siblings: Evon Childs, Helen C. Gaines (Trent), and Emily C. Gaines (Hugh, Sr.), many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
