Mildred Jean Schaper, 84, of Bondurant, and formerly Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at the Carlisle Center for Wellness and Rehab.
Funeral services for Mildred will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Please dress casual. Memorials may be directed to the family. Mildred Ward was born on May 5, 1941 in Collins, Iowa. She was the daughter of Millard and Irene (Rambo) Ward. Mildred graduated from Zearing High School in 1959 and went on to complete her education at Marshalltown Junior College. Mildred was united in marriage to Richard Schaper on June 7, 1964 at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to two children: Dave and Mark. Mildred had been active at Elim Lutheran Church and enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She was a “social butterfly” and was always happy with a smile on her face. Mildred cherished the time she spent with her loving family. In 2016, Mildred moved to Courtyard Estates in Bondurant.
Mildred is survived by her children: Dave (Becky) Schaper of Elkhart and Mark (Brenda) Schaper of Newton. Grandchildren: Lindsay (Justin) Bailey of Bondurant and Jamie Schaper of Des Moines along with three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Ellen (Dick) Graber of Newton and Kay (Ben) Zizzi of Denver, Colorado.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband: Richard; parents: Millard and Irene and brother: Earl Ward.
