Nathan Louis Schaper, 76, of Ochelata, died January 13th in Tulsa.

Nathan Louis Schaper was born to Melvin Louis Schaper and Carol Joy Firkins on 08/12/1949 in Independence, Kansas. He graduated high school from Independence Bible school and later married Janet Diane Talbot. Nathan was drafted to the Army and served in Vietnam through the war. He had 3 children Brad, Amanda and Jon. His careers included retail, food service and philosophy. Nathan's hobbies included various collections; knives, cards, watches, and fishing supplies. He enjoyed fishing, reading, and taking care of people.

Nathan was a very selfless, compassionate person who always listened to everyone's problems, no matter what he had going on behind closed doors. He always tried to help anyone out if it was possible; he would have given you the last $20 in his pocket if it meant you would benefit from it or even if you were just having a bad day and needed a pick-me-up or smile on your face. He never made anyone feel like their words were not important whether it was meaningful or just a mundane conversation. Nathan is described as a hero and patriot from peers who knew him. He was very special, and a one-of-a-kind person. He was a role model and many aspired to be just like him. He would have never let anyone give up on their dreams, no matter what they were.

Nathan was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Louis Schaper and Carol Joy Schaper, and grandson Austin Bailey Hollenbeck. His surviving family members include his wife Diane, siblings: Ruth and Gary Schenck, Charles and Janette Schaper, Albert and Della Schaper, Steve and Lavonna Schaper, Quentin and Pam Schaper, and Kent and Erin Schaper; his children: Bradley and Dawn Schaper, Amanda and Marcus Dolan, Jon and Tasha Schaper; and his grandchildren: Kaycee and Kyle Sims, Noah Schaper, Kayli Hollenbeck, Nathaniel Schaper, Dawson Hollenbeck, Macie Schaper, Wyatt Hollenbeck, Regan Schaper, Carter Hollenbeck and Pyper Schaper.

Visitation will be held from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 18th at Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 113 S. Osage, Dewey, OK.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 19th at the Bible Holiness Church in Ochelata. Interment will follow in the Ochelata Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com
