Mildred Francis VanDerwerker passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025.
Millie, as she was known, was born February 19, 1936, to parents Francis and Alice Ottman. She graduated from Cherry Valley Central School, and married her high school sweetheart, Alvie VanDerwerker on June 5, 1955.
Alvie and Millie raised their children (and grandchildren) on the family's dairy farm in Cherry Valley, NY. The farm is the heart of the family, and it was here where Millie consistently demonstrated her strong work ethic, fierce spirit, and devotion to her family.
Millie also spent many years working for the Cherry Valley Springfield Central School, both in the cafeteria and on the school bus. She took pride in her work, and the relationships she made with children in the school community.
In her retirement, Millie enjoyed shopping, traveling with family and lunch dates with her beloved friend, Daisy Ford. She loved pancakes, a cup of coffee and watching birds, her favorite being a vibrant red cardinal.
One of Millie's greatest honors was being a grandmother. Affectionally, known as "Gram," Millie was blessed with seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Kelly Ryan and Greg Gosselin, their children Riley and Liam of Burke VA; Heather Ryan and Brian Leahy, and their son Noah of Canandaigua; Nicole VanDerwerker and daughter Madisyn of Cherry Valley; Celia and Kenneth Mann, and their children David and Ellie; Mathias and Breanna VanDerwerker and their sons Mathias, Cohen, Judson and Callan of Cherry Valley; Daniel Walker and Natasha Woudberg of New Zealand and Brian Walker currently of Alabama. Millie took great joy in watching her family grow. She was proud of and fulfilled by learning of their adventures and accomplishments. Her spirit lives on in each and every one.
Millie is survived by her children, Pam (Bill) Ryan, Ed (Brenda) VanDerwerker, Kim (Roger) Walker. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Alvie VanDerwerker in 2021.
There will be memorial service in the spring with a private family burial at a later date.

Millie was a wonderful and caring person. Although I've known her for a short time, she left me with memories for a lifetime. It was a pleasure to have known her. She is missed
