Milo Carrol Matthew Sunrise: 12/7/1932 Sunset: 1/7/2026
Milo Carrol Matthew was born in Pemberton, NJ to Lena and Wallace Matthew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Ernestine, Chloe and Dorothy, and also a special brother-in-law Albert Murphy and his great friend Tom from Potters Creek. Milo graduated from Sebring McKinley HS in 1952. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He served for 2 years. Milo worked at the Ohio Edison Co. for 41 years. He loved being a lineman and always enjoyed going to work. At the end of his career at Ohio Edison he was a Trouble Shooter that went ahead of the crews to determine what needed to be done.
He married Barbara Ann Murphy on August 4, 1957. This union produced 2 children, Teresa Greenwalt (Tim) and Steven E. Matthew (Chris). His grandchildren were most important to him: Douglas Matthew Kollar (Nita), Carrolyn Ann Salazar (Freddy), Ashley Marie Kollar (Abdullah Bin Saeed), Janelle Christine Somarcik (Dylan), Madalyn Claire (Dr. Nick Spittle), Steven Clay Matthew (Vanessa), and Thomas Carter Matthew. He always said he was so blessed by these grandchildren.but then the great grandchildren came along and he felt DOUBLY blessed. Santiago and Arianna Salazar, Reagan and Monroe Kollar, Dean, Frankie and Vinny Spittle, Evelyn Gray Risden, and Mara Jo Matthew.
Through the years Milo raised beef cattle for his children to show at the Stark County Fair. He was a stickler for having his children do the majority of the work, as they would reap the benefits from the sale of the cattle. He strived to teach his kids a good work ethic and he succeeded. From delivering papers and mowing lawns to snow plowing he was always encouraging them in their many endeavors. His second love was horses. He and Barbara camped and rode in the majority of the parks around Ohio. They also had many adventures out of state riding their horses and camping. They had a circle of outstanding friends who shared this love with them. Milo worked tirelessly on the trails at West Branch State Park where he served as a VIP. His best friend David Kennedy was always an encouragement to him.
Milo was a self taught wood worker. He loved to carve. He built many beautiful pieces of furniture for the family home. He was generous with his carvings.gifting to friends and family. Milo made friends easily and greeted everyone with a smile when out with his dog Murphy. He was a friendly neighbor at Potter's Creek and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone with a project. To say he was a "handyman" was an understatement. He was a member of the Alliance First Christian Church, where a Memorial Service will take place Monday January 12.
The Alliance First Christian Church: 1141 West Beech Street, Alliance, Ohio 44601. Calling Hours will be held 10-11 am with a Memorial Service to follow. A lunch will be served at the church following the service.

Everyone will agree that there was no finer man than Milo Matthew. We all became friends through our mutual love of horses and remained dear friends from the relationships formed around the campfire. Boy, did we have fun! There was nothing more wonderful than to meet each morning around Milo’s campfire with a steaming cup of coffee and get ready to laugh. I like to imagine him now seeing his beloved horses and being young and agile enough to ride them. Remember what you always told us, Milo; Don’t squat with your spurs on.
