Milt Smith Poleate was born May 11, 1971, in Canton, Ohio, to Herbert and Susan Smith Poleate. However, he was reared by his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Viola Kemp Smith in Demopolis, Alabama, who all have preceded him in death.
Milt graduated from Demopolis High School in 1990 and then joined the job corps in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he studied to become a certified medical assistant. Milt was a hard worker and held several jobs in Demopolis and in Mobile, Alabama. Preceding his death, he found his dream job at General Electric in Decatur, Alabama, as a Machine Operator and enjoyed every moment of it. Milt then in 2011, he reached out to Vickie while strolling through her profile picture online. They instantly became "boyfriend and girlfriend," and he decided to relocate in Decatur, Alabama, to be closer to his "girlfriend." He soon changed his church home from the Eastern Star Baptist Church, in Demopolis, Alabama, and joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Decatur, Alabama, where he faithfully served as an usher, and member of the Christian Fellowship Ministry.
Milt grew up loving the music of New Edition and was ecstatic when Ralph Tresvant told me to tell him "Thank him for the love." His most favorite past times were watching wrestling and all the sports on T.V. that he could, but most of all, he loved watching the ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE SATURDAY EVENING FOOTBALL!!! He greatly enjoyed working with GE, work family, and friends. Milt was a jokester and loved picking on his family and friends that appreciated his gestures, Joslyn Guster said every evening he would holler across the parking lot and tell her that she ain't done no work all day!
Milt became interested in the brotherhood of the George W. Braxdoll Lodge No. 28. He studied hard, attended meetings, and study group session. He was determined to become a member of this lodge. He was happy and relieved to receive his raising on June 28, 2024, into the brotherhood which he was proud and Vickie was too! His hard work had paid off and he had become a Master Mason! He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and living life to the fullest. He was a very loveable person that will be missed greatly
Those who will forever cherish every moment spent with him are his wife, Vickie; stepson, Tory G. Steele (Samantha); one sister, Aretha Mae Gracie (Ronnie); one brother, Eugene Poleate; one aunt, JoAnn Smith; two sisters-in-law, Rose S. Miller, and Tracy S. Fletcher; three brothers-in-law, Johnny W. Steele (Sharon), C.L. Steele, Jr. (Crystal), and Dennis L. Steele; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
