Obituary for Milton Sturman (1933–2026)

Milton Sturman, 92, of Irving, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026, closing a remarkable life defined by devotion to family, service to his community, and a distinguished legal career. Born on March 19, 1933, Milton lived fully, loved generously, and leaves behind a legacy cherished by all who knew him.

Raised in Dallas as the son of Isaac and Rose (Kissner) Sturman, Milton developed early the values of hard work, integrity, and civic responsibility-principles that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from North Texas State University in 1954 before earning his Doctor of Juridical Science from the University of Texas in 1957, launching what would become a long and respected career in law.

Milton's professional path began with service as an Assistant District Attorney for the City of Dallas (1958–1959) and continued through roles with leading Dallas law firms before he ultimately established a sole practice in Irving, where he served the community for decades. His peers recognized his leadership and dedication-he served as President of the Irving Bar Association (1969) and contributed significantly to the Texas Municipal Judges Association, including roles as treasurer and board member. His professional achievements earned him recognition from Marquis Who, honoring his reputation as a principled and accomplished attorney.

Beyond his legal work, Milton believed deeply in community and civic engagement. He had a long association with the Masons, and his years as a Judge for the City of Irving (1965–1968 and 1991-2008) were remembered as a period marked by fairness, humility, and unwavering respect for the people he served.

In 1962, Milton married Sarah Faye Shelby, with whom he shared a devoted partnership until her passing in 2018. Together they raised three children-Craig, Tamara, and Aaron-who were the pride of his life. Milton was a steady, loving father who offered encouragement, wise counsel, and a steady example of thoughtful living.

In his later years, Milton embraced quieter routines, cherishing time with family, friends and his dog Gizmo, and reflecting gratefully on a life well lived. He spent his final months in the care of an assisted living facility, where he was supported by compassionate caregivers and passed peacefully with a beloved aide at his side.

While his passing leaves a profound void, those who loved him find comfort in knowing he lived with purpose and dignity. His memory endures through the countless lives he touched-family, colleagues, clients, and community members who benefited from his generosity and guidance. The warmth of his presence, the strength of his principles, and the tenderness of his love will forever remain part of the legacy he leaves behind. Milton was preceded by his parents Isaac and Rose, wife Sarah, and daughter Tamara Volk. Survivors include his son Aaron Sturman and wife Teri, grandkids Isaac Hunter and Madelyn Inez, son-in-law JP Volk and grandkids Rachel Jordan and Shayna Alexandra.
