Marina was born on September 29, 1924, in Sunbango, Mosteiros, Fogo, Cabo Verde. She was the cherished daughter of Andreza Lopes Monteiro and Leopoldo Osorio Galvão, both of whom preceded her in death.

Marina was a woman of unwavering strength, boundless grace, and quiet wisdom. Over the course of a century, she lived through a changing world with resilience, faith, and love as her guiding lights. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Marina was the heart of her family; a source of comfort, tradition, and unconditional love.

Her stories, laughter, and presence will remain etched in our hearts forever. Marina's joy for life was contagious. She had a deep love for dancing and made sure to get on the dance floor at every party, especially on her birthdays. No celebration was complete without seeing her move with energy, laughter, and that unforgettable smile. At her 99th and most recent 100th birthday parties, she danced with the same spirit she always had, surrounded by the family and friends who adored her. Those moments, full of music, joy, and love, will be cherished.

Marina is survived by a loving and proud family who will continue to honor her legacy: Her children: Maria Socorro Lopes Monteiro and John Lopes Monteiro; Her grandchildren: Celestino Monteiro, Stephanie Monteiro, Kenny Monteiro, Eric Monteiro, Carlos Carlo, Guy Reginald Dubuisson, Christopher Monteiro, Nicole Monteiro, Miryam-Marina Monteiro, Kito Monteiro, and Alexandro De Pina; And her 14 great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy.

Marina is reunited in peace with her beloved daughter, Margarida Lopes Monteiro, and all those she held dear who passed before her.

A celebration of Marina's life will be held on Wednesday at Russell and Pica Funeral Home from 5-8pm. A church ceremony on Thursday at 10am at St Edith Stein Parish, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. All who knew her are welcome to attend, share memories, and honor a woman whose life touched so many.

Marina lived a full century, and with every year, she gave more than she took, loved more than she asked, and left behind a legacy that will never fade. She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered.

Rest in Peace, Vovó Marina.
