To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; Eccl 3:1-4
With love and reverence, we celebrate the life of Sister Minnie Yvonne Cross, whose gentle spirit and unwavering devotion brought light and hope to everyone around her. She peacefully entered the eternal embrace of her Heavenly Father on November 4, 2025, where there is no more sorrow, no more tears, and her faithful life is fully rewarded.
Sister Yvonne was born on November 3, 1944, in Attala County, Mississippi, to the late Omer Cross, Sr. and Myrtis Micou Cross. She accepted Christ at an early age and dedicated her life to service. She faithfully served Little Hill Missionary Baptist Church, holding leadership roles as President of the Program Committee, Choir President, Youth Leader, and President of the Little Hill Women's Mission. She was also an active member of the Mount Hope District Association, touching countless lives with her guidance and encouragement.
A lifelong learner and devoted educator, Sister Yvonne graduated from Tipton High School in 1962, earned an Associate Degree from Okolona Junior College, a Bachelor's Degree in English from Rust College, and a Master's Degree in Education from Mississippi State University. Her career in the Mississippi public school system spanned over thirty years, culminating in her retirement from the Kosciusko School District as a librarian. She inspired generations of students with her love of reading and learning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers L. J., Jeremiah, Omer Jr., and Willie Marvin Cross; and sister Hattie Mae Cross Jamison.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Octavian Cross (Keiona); grandchildren Charles and Leah; great-grandchildren Eilas and Reis; sister LaVelle Cross Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Her life was a shining example of faith, family, and service. Though she has departed this life, the light of her spirit and the warmth of her love will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
