Minnie Stephenson Obituary

Minnie Lee "Mickie" Butler Stephenson, 91, of Lee Co., peacefully passed away at Willson Hospice House on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Mausoleum.

Mickie, as she was fondly called by many, was born on September 28, 1932, in Deep Step Georgia, to the late Briscoe and Julia Turner Butler. She was a proud graduate of Peabody High School in Milledgeville, GA, in 1950. She married Edward Stephenson in Albany, GA, in 1952. Mickie worked for Southern Bell 31 years as a operator/supervisor before retiring on May 11, 1983.

Mickie was a lifelong Southern Bell "Pioneer", participating in many community events. Mickie thoroughly enjoyed watching her son, Jimmy, play football from a very early age.

Mickie loved fishing, bowling, reading (mailing books back and forth with her niece Joyce Walker), writing letters to her nieces and nephews, walking, doing word search "puzzles", going to Sunday School, and watching Braves baseball.

Mickie loved the Lord and she and Edward were long-time members of the "Open Door" Sunday School class at First Baptist Church, Albany.

Mickie loved her family and friends and was deeply loved and cherished by them. She held a special bond with ALL of her family.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Edward Boyd "Ed" Stephenson, sisters Betty Butler Walker (Yancey) and Mary Butler Wolbert (Warren), brother, Billy Butler (Glenda); Sisters-in-law, Nita Holt (Joe) and Grace Henry (Bill)

Survivors include her beloved son Jimmy Stephenson and his wife, Selina Coleman Stephenson of Lee Co, GA, her brother Jerry Butler of Eatonton GA, and brother-in-law, James Stephenson of Rock Hill, SC. Numerous nieces and nephews are left to cherish her memory. Pall bearers: nephews Yancey Walker IV, Paul Walker, Barry Crutchfield, and friend Jim Beasley

The family will receive friends, Monday, June 10, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Willson Hospice House, Albany, GA.
