Miriam Grenier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peabody Funeral Home - Londonderry on Jan. 13, 2026.
Mrs. Miriam Grenier, born on October 26, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, in Derry, New Hampshire, at the age of 85.

Miriam's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with faith, creativity, and love. Raised in Boston's Catholic school system, her Roman Catholic upbringing instilled in her a quiet strength and steadfast values that guided her throughout her life. From an early age, she showed a remarkable talent for sewing-a gift that blossomed into both a beloved pastime and a meaningful career.

Her artistry with fabric found its home at Modern Bride and Formal Shop in New Hampshire, where she worked as a seamstress specializing in gowns. With each stitch, Miriam transformed fabric into elegance. Her hands moved with care and intention, crafting garments that became part of life's most treasured moments. Whether designing gifts for loved ones or creating intricate doll clothes in her youth, her work was always infused with thoughtfulness and grace.

In 1973, destiny played its hand when Miriam met Hermel "Mel" Grenier at the 400 Lounge in Methuen, Massachusetts. It was love at first sight-both declaring to friends that they had just met someone truly special. Their love grew quickly and deeply; they married in 1975 and welcomed their son Michael two years later. Though both came from large families, they found joy and fulfillment in their close-knit household - a small circle rich with love and shared moments.

Miriam's warmth extended far beyond the walls of her home. Her gentle smile and open spirit made others feel welcome wherever she went. She shared strong connections with her siblings and held dear the memory of her closest friend Mimi. One of the brightest lights in her later years was being a grandmother to Hailey-a relationship filled with laughter over macaroni and cheese lunches, art projects spread across the table, silly stories spun from imagination, and unwavering encouragement that helped inspire Hailey's journey to study art in Leeds, England.

She embraced the simple joys of life: delving into mystery novels or romantic tales; singing along to favorite songs; dancing freely; crocheting heartfelt keepsakes; and indulging in sweet treats. Every day offered her an opportunity to create beauty-whether through words, melody, or thread-and she seized those chances with joyful abandon.

Miriam is lovingly remembered by her husband Hermel Grenier; her son Michael Grenier and his wife Heather; and her granddaughter Hailey Grenier. She also leaves behind siblings Richard Lyons and his wife Chaleau; Patricia Lyons; Julie Guerrero; and Steven Lyons and his wife Pam. Many nieces and nephews held special places in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul J. Lyons Sr. and Caroline Lyons; as well as brothers Paul Lyons Jr. and Ronald Lyons.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 17, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry with cremation to follow. A Catholic Prayer service will be held during the calling hours.

May Miriam's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her - and may the beauty she stitched into this world live on in every heart she touched.

I just found out about Miriam´s passing. My deepest sympathy to the family. I worked with Miriam for years at Modern Bride. My fondest memories were of Hermel picking Miriam up at work. I always told her that her boyfriend was here! She would giggle. She always thought of him when we went out to lunch. She would always get him a meal to go. I´ve missed her smile and laugh. She would tell me all about her granddaughter. She gave her so much joy.
