Miriam E. Ross passed away peacefully into eternal life on August 8, 2025 at age 83 after a long and fruitful life as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher.

Miriam Dooley was born in New York City and was raised in Elmhurst, Queens. After a difficult childhood during which both her parents died by the time she was 18 years old, Miriam graduated high school from the Mary Louis Academy in 1958 and then received her bachelor's degree in mathematics from St. Joseph's College in Queens in 1962.

Miriam then married Joseph Ross in 1962 and gave birth to their first child, Joseph in 1963. Joe had severe cerebral palsy, and required assistance with all activities of daily living throughout his life. As Joe's primary caregiver, Miriam's tireless support and advocacy helped Joe live a rich and fruitful life until his death in 2018. Miriam had a highly impactful career as a special education teacher. She spent most of her career at BOCES where she taught and supported students with special needs and was beloved by her students and coworkers. Miriam was also a devoted and loving grandmother, aunt, and Godmother.

Miriam was predeceased by her daughter Angela and son Joseph and is survived by her devoted husband Joseph Ross, her son Michael Ross and daughter-in-law AnnMarie Ross and her grandchildren, Catherine, Ian, and Micaela Ross.

The Ross family would like to thank all of Miriam's remarkable friends and family for their enduring love and support throughout her life.

In lieu of flowers, Miriam's family requests donations to:

United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island, which provided wonderful care and support to her son Joe throughout his life.
