Mitchell Martino Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. on Dec. 9, 2025.
Mitchell Martino, 41 of Brooklyn, New York passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025 with the comfort of family by his side.

Beloved Son, Mitchell was born 11/15/1984 to Elise Castoro and Peter Mitchell Martino. He played football as a child for Saint Athanasius Church, and attended PS/IS226 where his strongest friendships were formed. Diagnosed as a pre teen with Friedrichs ataxia, a form of muscular dystrophy, He attended Shriners Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, which offered tremendous support to his condition. He relied on the use of a wheelchair, but did not let it define him. He attended briefly, Fridley high school in Minnesota and FDR high school in Brooklyn. Creating life long bonds.

Speaking of bonds , nothing was stronger than the bond he had with his sister Jasmine, who helped raise him and take care of him until the very end. She embraced his zest for life and never let his disability stop him from experiencing a fun life. From concerts to baseball games to meeting celebrities, such as the Backstreet Boys and even Mets baseball legend John Franco was known to visit him. Mitchell loved smiling, and laughing and making the most out of every situation. Any given Sunday, you can find him rooting for the New York Jets., or watching the New York Mets or putting in his horse racing bets. He was known to pick a lot of winners.

Mitchell also had been blessed with a large family from coast to coast with 10 other brothers and sisters, lots of nieces and nephews, many cousins and aunts and uncles who all loved him very dearly. Everyone loved it when Mitch came to a party or event. It meant the life of the party was there.

He especially loved spending time playing board games with his God daughter/niece Angela,or reading the Lord of the rings, Harry Potter, and watching Game of Thrones and Stranger Things. He always made sure to go to every opening night of any Marvel/DC movie that was released! He can easily been found on his tablet and listening to music.

He had 24 hour care by some of the best and kindest people and lived independently in his own 1 bedroom apt which he was so proud of.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. Funeral Arrangements include private cremation.
