Jaret Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweet's Funeral Home on Feb. 27, 2026.
Jaret Douglas Smith, 46, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park, passed peacefully at home with his family by his side on February 3, 2026, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Jaret was a graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School and enjoyed his work in the summers as a camp counselor at Hackett Hill Day Camp. After high school, he was proud to have worked at D.C. BOCES as a Teaching Assistant for 14 years. Most recently, he was employed at Smith Environmental Laboratory. Jaret was also a proud member of the Ancient and Honorable Order of Turtles. His large heart, warm friendly soul and kind blue eyes will be remembered by many.

Jaret was predeceased by his father, Douglas Robert Smith in 2019. He is survived by his mother, Anne Gallagher Smith, sister, Aislinn Anne Smith, and niece, Samantha Eileen Vandenbrul; along with many other family members; including uncles, aunts, and cousins. In addition, Jaret leaves a large network of friends and loved ones; including some in Ireland, a place he frequently traveled, and dreamt of moving to in his retirement.

At the time of Jaret's passing, he was in the process of designing a new home on the family farm in Stuyvesant. He loved the outdoors and animals, rescuing many over the years. Jaret never met a dog he didn't like. He was also an avid car enthusiast and artist; he enjoyed drawing, tattoos, and all types of model building.

Visiting hours are scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Sweet's Funeral Home in Hyde Park, NY. In keeping with Jaret's Irish spirit, a gathering of family and friends will follow at Mahoney's Irish Pub.
