Darling-Mouser Funeral HomeSAN BENITO, TX. - Mitchell Laughton Sommer, of San Benito, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, the 4th of November 2025. He was born on May 28, 1959, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was lovingly adopted the day he was born by the late Marcel William “Buddy” Sommer and Soundra Joan Herbert “Sonnie” Sommer of Brownsville, Texas.
Mitchell dedicated 29 years of honorable service to the United States Border Patrol, where he took great pride in protecting his country and community. Outside of his career, his favorite pastime was fishing, a simple joy that reflected his love for the outdoors, his patience, and his peaceful nature.
Preceding Mitchell in death are his parents, Marcel William “Buddy” Sommer and Soundra Joan Herbert “Sonnie” Sommer.
He will be lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Jennifer Sommer; his daughters, Amanda Stambaugh (Anthony) and Sydney Grayson (Kyle); his cherished grandchildren, Luke, Reed, Isaac, and Shiloh Stambaugh, and Addison, Asher, and Axel Grayson; and by his brothers, Aaron Daniel Sommer and Stephen Ira Sommer.
Mitchell will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle humor, and deep devotion to his family. His love, kindness, and steady presence will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 14th of November 2025 beginning at three o’clock in the afternoon, with U.S. Border Patrol honors and the memorial service to commence at four o'clock in the afternoon within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. All services will conclude Friday afternoon.
