Mitza (Newcomb) Durham, age 83, of Seymour, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Durham was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seymour for more than 50 years.
Mitza was the owner of Slender You in Seymour for several years. While raising her family, she was the business manager for her husband's dental practice.
Spending time with her family was one of the greatest joys of Mitza's life. Whether it was a big family gathering in Louisville or a casual Sunday afternoon watching golf or any sport that happened to be on television, Mo was in her happy place. She also loved connecting with her church family and her friends, and she was very loyal to her Bridge Club. She enjoyed golfing at the Country Club, vacationing in Florida, sewing, shopping, and baking.
Mrs. Durham was President of Tri Kappa, belonged to and was President of UMW (United Methodist Women), and she served on the Board of the Seymour Boys and Girls Club.
Born on March 28, 1940, in Louisville, Kentucky, Mitza was the daughter of Nathan and Mabel Newcomb, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Dr. Charles J. Durham on July 15, 1961, and were married for 50 years.
Survivors include one son, Tim Durham; two daughters: Dana Osler and Courtney Durham; six grandchildren: B.J. Durham, Alex (Natalie) Durham, Michael Durham, Timothy Durham, Bailey Osler, and Caroline Osler; four great-grandchildren: Hazel Durham, Beau Durham, Owen Durham, and Margaux Durham; nieces: Pam (Phil) Robertson, Jan (Lowell) Allen, Sandy (Steve) Montgomery, Teri (Brad) Worthington; and nephew, Ray (Desiree) Hampton, Jr.
Mitza was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Ray Stoess.
Funeral services for Mitza (Newcomb) Durham will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Mitza's niece, Pam Robertson, officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
A private family interment will be held at a later date at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
Memorials may be given to Wrongful Conviction Clinic @ I.U. McKinney School of Law or Go Red For Women.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the caring staff at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
