Momoh Kamara

Momoh Joseph Kamara, 53 y/o of Springfield, MA, passed away on June 18, 2023. Momoh was born on March 19, 1970, to Madam. Damoh Sesay and Mr. Sorie Momoh Kamara in Freetown, Sierra Leone. As the African adage goes, "It takes a village to raise a child." Momoh was also connected to the Brandon family, with matriarch Gladys Brandon caring for him until her passing in 1982. Momoh was baptized at Jehovah Shama church and attended Congo Town primary and Technical secondary schools in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Momoh is survived by his wife, Nora Kamara, and three beautiful children Sonnia, Tanya, and Aniya. Momoh was a doting, supportive, loving, and very protective father; he always wanted the best for his children and ensured and instilled education in them. His proudest and most joyous moments were with his three beautiful children. Momoh was very social and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. Soccer was his favorite sport which he played as a mid-fielder, won many trophies, and was part of a local team in Springfield Six. Chelsea in the UK was his favorite premier league soccer team. Momoh's career spanned joining the Mercy Ships in 1996, sailing worldwide for two years, and supporting the ship's mission in the engine room, providing much-needed healthcare for the world's needy. Momoh continued his education at Springfield Technical Community College and Westfield State University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in computer science. Momoh was employed by the Granville Tolland Regional School in Southwick, MA as a Computer network administrator. Additionally, Momoh maintained his connection with his first job in Springfield, MA, providing care for individuals with a developmental disability. Even though Momoh was good with computers, his first love remained with people. He came to many family cookouts with a client at his side. Momoh's family network is extensive; he is survived by his sister Miss. Karietta Kamara, who lives in Seattle, Washington, Miss. Yealie Kamara, and Miss. Sarah Kamara of Freetown, Sierra Leone. He is also survived by his stepmother Mrs. Sao Kamara, several aunts, uncles nieces and nephews, and many cousins in the Kamara, Sesay, and Brandon families.
A viewing service will occur on July 6, 2023, 4-7pm at Henderson Funeral Home on 52 Hancock Street in Springfield, MA.
Service will be held at St. Johns Congregational church on 45 Hancock Street in Springfield, MA, on July 7, 2023, at 09:30 am. (Livestreaming will be provided).
Burial will be after the service at the Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St, Springfield, MA
