Monica Janel Sipes passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. After 25 years of suffering, Monica has been restored whole and is now in the loving arms of her Savior. A devout Catholic, Monica lived her life guided by faith, compassion, and an unwavering love for others.

Monica was born on August 20, 1974, to Janice Gray and Billy Sipes Sr. She graduated from New Diana High School and went on to pursue a nursing degree from Kilgore College. Monica fulfilled her calling as a nurse at Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart, Texas, where her compassion, dedication, and gentle spirit touched countless lives.

Monica was known for her humor and infectious laughter. She had a mischievous, playful side and was a natural prankster, always ready to bring joy to those around her. She was gifted in many areas and was especially creative, with a talent for drawing and crafting. Monica was studious, athletic, and even played the drums in the marching band. Her compassion extended beyond people to animals, whom she dearly loved.

Family meant everything to Monica. She was a loving sister and the fun cousin and aunt who always came prepared with games, activities, and thoughtful surprises. Selfless and kind, she consistently put others before herself and went out of her way to make those around her feel seen and loved. Monica's life continued to reflect generosity and love, as she found ways to give back, including donating her hair to Locks of Love several times. Monica always felt called to make a difference in the medical field, and even after her accident when her voice could no longer be heard; her life continued to speak volumes, reminding healthcare providers that every life has dignity, value, and purpose. She taught compassion, patience, and humanity through her journey showing that disability never diminishes personhood.

Monica is preceded in death by her father, Billy Sipes Sr.; her maternal grandparents, Bennie and Eleanor Gonzales; her paternal grandparents, B.W. and Onedia Sipes; her maternal aunt, Ida Sena; her cousin, Josh Sena; and best friend, Ginger Fisher.

She is survived by her mother, Janice Gray (Michael); her siblings, Diane Carter (Tommy), Dana Nix, Billy Sipes Jr., and Stephanie Ellis (Matt); and her cherished nieces and nephews: Karissa Martin, Josh Daniels, Amanda Clark, Courtney White, Olivia, Kaylee, Gavin and Graycen Sipes, Sutton and Beckett Ellis. She is also survived by extended family, including cousins, aunts, uncles, and many dear friends.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Longview, Texas. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Monica will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, laughter, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those she touched. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a memorial contribution.
