As far as I can remember, I always knew about Monika. Though she lived in Germany and I in France, my father, her grand-father always spoke of her and they corresponded regularly. One summer back in 1958, she came for a visit. I thought she was the prettiest. Her French was not great, my German even worse, but we communicated plenty, often under the covers with a flashlight and a dictionary, and we laughed so much.
We lost track of each other for many years, but when we found each other again it was as if we'd never parted.
She was always beautiful, kind, caring, and hard working. Her family was her treasure.
Heaven got another angel.
