Mont Duane Schoenfeld

Duane passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of September 10th, 2025 after a three year decline from dementia. Duane was born on August 3, 1946, to Lamont Harvey Schoenfeld and Wanda May Hancock who were blessed to have him on Lamont's birthday. Duane had two older half brothers; Darrell (Buddy) Huff and Frank (Dude) Huff and a younger brother Jerry. When Duane was just 11 years old his mother Wanda passed away. In January of 1960, Alice Elizabeth Baldwin married Duane's dad and joined their family. Duane spent most of his childhood in Salt Lake City, though for a short time, he also lived on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. Duane graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1964. In 1966, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in telecommunications, spending time in Vietnam and receiving several medals for his service. After returning home, he used these skills to build a successful career in the telecommunication industry. In August of 1971, Duane married Linda Lee Bytendorp. They were married 50 years before Linda's passing in 2022. Although they faced hardships, including the loss of their first daughter Erin, who passed away one week prior to her birth in 1974, Duane and Linda were determined to grow their family. They were blessed with four beautiful children: Wendi, Jaime (Will), Kelli (Keene), and Brandon. Duane's legacy lives on in his eleven grandchildren: Jaron, Ashton, Jacob, Allie, Keira, Tristin, Noah, Keene Jr., Sienna, Saydie and Sawyer. Throughout his life, Duane worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He made countless sacrifices to ensure their wellbeing and was always there to support them in various ways – whether helping with homework, attending dance recitals, and sporting events, or helping with scout trips and projects. He taught them the value of hard work, the importance of being strong and determined and that with effort, anything is possible. Duane enjoyed a variety of hobbies including skiing, golfing, bowling, admiring classic cars, crossword puzzles and sudoku. He had a passion for collecting coins, pins, baseball caps and Snoopy memorabilia. After retiring at 56 years old, he was able to spend a lot of quality time with his beloved grandchildren, whom he adored. He and Linda enjoyed caring for them and helping in every way they could. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Escalante at Coventry, especially the Memory Care Center, where Duane lived for the past six months. Their compassion and care meant so much to the family. We are also deeply grateful for the support from the Symbii hospice team who helped during Duan's final days. Duane is survived by his children and grandchildren and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, and his beautiful wife Linda. A viewing will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Premier Funeral Services, 67 East 8000 South, Midvale, UT 84047. The graveside service will take place Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT 84092. There will be no traditional service, but all are encouraged to share memories of Duane at the graveside where a PA system will be available. In place of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org or any other meaningful foundation, in the hope of helping other families impacted by dementia and Alzheimer's.
