Vincent 'Monty' Slapak, 78, of Muscoda passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Pine Valley Community Village. He was born on September 18, 1945, in Richland Center the son of Harry and Esther (Gulsrud) Slapak. Monty was raised in Richland Center by his mother Esther and his stepfather Hillman Anderson. He graduated from Richland Center High School in 1963. Monty was a member of the Richland Center High School Baseball team that went to state in 1963. He served in the US Army from 1965-67. On August 12, 1972, Monty was united in marriage to Patricia Laufenberg at the Muscoda Presbyterian Church. He worked at Marathon Cheese and later Universal Silencer until his retirement in 2009. Monty was very proud to have worked in Muscoda so he could be closer to his children. He attended all his children's sporting events, band concerts, and activities. Monty loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage making lefse and futeman and sharing with a select few. Monty enjoyed spending time in his shop woodworking, making furniture for his family.
Monty is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat;
Two children: Stacy (Jay) Linscheid of Reedsburg,
Cullen (Shelley) Slapak of Janesville;
Four grandchildren: Delaney and Grant Linscheid, Marin and Cyler Slapak;
Half-sister: Dona (Bill) Lackey of Stamford, TX;
Half-brother: Randy (Pat) Slapak of Spring Hill, TN;
Brothers and sisters-in-law: Dennis (Linda) Laufenberg, Helen Laufenberg, Donna (Dave) Roeker, Susan Welsh;
Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Monty was preceded in death by his mother Esther, step-father Hillman, father Harry, in-laws John and Gwen Laufenberg, brothers-in-law: Tom, Randy, and Mike Laufenberg, and Larry Welsh.
The family would like to thank the Richland Hospital and Pine Valley Community Village for their care for Monty over the past several months.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the Muscoda Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Muscoda American Legion Post 85. The family requests people wear flannel to honor Monty. A time of sharing will be held at the Muscoda Sportsman's Club, 18849 Sportsman Drive, Muscoda following the graveside. The family requests memorials in Monty's name be directed to the Red Cross or Agrace Hospice. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
