Morice Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaines Funeral Home - Maple Heights on Apr. 10, 2025.
Morice's Story
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Morice Ward on April 4, 2025, at the age of 87. Morice was born to Mickey and Mary Ward on July 11, 1937, in Dermott, Arkansas. He attended Dermott Public School and became active in his church, serving as an usher, a member of the church choir, and part of the Sunshine Band before being inducted into the United States Navy at the age of 18. After his service, Morice worked as a union concrete finisher and construction specialist for 23 years before retiring. He also started a family landscaping company and had a great passion for "cutting grass."
Morice met the love of his life, Patricia Ward, in 1976 and they shared 48 wonderful years together in Garfield Heights, Ohio. They were proud parents of nine children: Cesar Powers, Cequita Hagood, Venus Powers, Rondu Powers, Shuywanna Harper (Cornell), Tiffone Powers-Parker (Wayne), Tiffany Powers, Morice Ward II, and LaWanda Ward (from a previous marriage).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mickey and Mary Ward; his grandmother, Estella Harris-Shaw; and his daughter, Izetta Cranfield.
Morice is survived by his brother, Donald Deal (Peggy Deal), and their ten children. Additionally, more than 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, over 10 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of cousins (notably his favorite cousin, Evelyn Moore), nieces, and nephews.
Those who knew Morice (also affectionately known as Moe, Dad, Grandpa, Paw-Paw, Cool Breeze, Old School, Young One, Old G, Confidant of Maplerow, and Honey) understood that he lived the life he loved and loved the life he lived. While we grieve his loss, let us find comfort in the pleasure he took from each journey with those he cherished, as he loved to ride. Morice was fond of humor, enjoyed listening to old-school music, and always had a story for every occasion. He truly valued his relationships because he loved people. His departure brings a deep sense of shock and sorrow, felt profoundly by all who knew him. We leave you with a famous quote from Morice:" I'm Good, Babe"!
