Morris Eugene Finnern, (67), of Springfield, Missouri, peacefully passed away on April 8, 2023, surrounded by family. Morris, known as Gene, was born on April 16, 1955, in Omaha Nebraska.
He was a talented welder, and he ran his own flooring business for many years also training and working alongside his son's. He loved playing softball, billiards, and going to the river on hot summer days with his family. But most of all he loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was proceeded in death by, his father Morris, mother Cecile, sisters Candy and Becky, brother Les, grandson Blake, and Chase Michael.
Gene is survived and missed by his loving wife of 47 years and best Mom in the world Shawnee Lou Finnern and eight children, Steven, Amy, Heather, Cassandra, Jon, Quinton, Christina, and Doug. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Maleah, Brianna, Cory, Colby, Tyler, Payton, Teron, Ricky, Kylee, Kiera, Elexia, Shane, Lanee, Mason, Treyton, Taylan, Titan, Talon, Donovan, Brett, Caleb, Major, Theo, Patience, Kayson, Samuel, Amelia, Elijah, Tyson, sister Cathy, and brothers Lester and Lawrence.
Gene had the biggest heart and most beautiful soul. He was a private and quiet person, but also very supportive and fun! He was fearless, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. He loved family time, his dogs Pepi, Gracie, and Stormee, western movies, The Beatles, Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined him. They were part of who he was, and his strength undoubtedly helped him through all his life challenges.
Gene had a way of making everyone feel welcome, he would bring you into his home, feed you and help you anyway he could. He was tough and firm but at the same time generous and loving. His patience was unmatched, but he had no choice with such a large family. His calm temper was beautiful, but when he had enough you knew it and he could set the tone with just his firm voice and look.
