Morrison Heth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 6, 2026.
Mo, having lived a wonderful and full life, passed peacefully at his home, on March 3, 2026, with his kids at his side. He was born in Valentine, Nebraska, on October 14, 1937, to Lynn and Clara Heth. When Mo's father saw that mother and baby were doing fine, he promptly headed out to go duck hunting. That may be why hunting and fishing were implanted in Mo from the start. He grew up in Valentine where he played high school sports, not as an athlete, but as a participant. For seven summers as a teenager, Mo worked on a ranch in the Sandhills of Nebraska; where brandings, fencing, tending cattle, and haying were his main tasks. After high school, Mo went to the University of Wyoming, where he was surprised to learn that Laramie was at 7,200 feet elevation; as high as Harney Peak in the Black Hills which was the highest peak he had ever seen.

Mo met his wife, Marilynn, at a UW football game as they were announcing scores of other games, and it so happened that Colorado (CU) was leading Nebraska. Being a good Cornhusker, Mo made negative comments about Colorado. Marilynn, a native of Sterling, CO, sitting a couple rows in front of Mo, turned and told him to 'tone it down', and Mo was hooked. She strived to keep him in line ever since. They married on May 31, 1959 and enjoyed 64 years together until Marilynn's passing in September, 2023. Marilynn and Mo enjoyed 4 children, Connie, Chris, Rick and Rhonda. Connie unfortunately passed away from cancer in November, 2023. The other children have been fortunate to have fulfilled lives and have been very supportive of their father.

After graduating from UW in 1959 with a degree in geology, Mo attended the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor. Upon graduating, Mo was an auditor for the IRS in Denver. He fortuitously had a case in Jackson county and where he met two women who had their father's ranch property for sale. Seeing an amazing opportunity, Mo rounded up friends who jointly bought the property at a bargain. Many adventures, primarily involving fish, but also included dynamite and beaver dams, were enjoyed on the property for the next 5 decades. On other trips in his motor home, Mo would describe the geology to all travelers, even if he made up some of the descriptions.

In addition to fishing and hunting, he had a passion for hiking, camping and climbing Colorado's 14,000-ft peaks. He summited 22 of them, including Longs peak at least 7 times.

Mo was a practicing attorney in Loveland for 60 years. For the first of those years, Mo was the manager of a trust department where he also served as bank vice-president. He served later on numerous bank boards and community foundations while practicing law full-time. His reputation as an excellent lawyer was a hallmark. Loyal clients requested his services well into his 80s.

Mo's mantra was "Service above Self". He was active in Rotary, serving as Club President in 1982 and District Governor in 1994. Additionally he played a pivotal role in the founding and sustaining, whether through legal prowess (no fees charged) or philanthropy, of numerous non-profit and service-oriented organizations in Loveland. His legacy is found hidden in the statutes and charters of these entities.

Mo's son Chris and wife Kornelia, son Rick and significant other Sandy, and daughter Rhonda, along with 4 grandchildren, in-laws, cousins and a myriad of relatives and friends will miss him dearly.

His Life Celebration Reception will be held at Mountain View Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 3rd at 11:00. A few thoughts and comments will begin around 11:30, with lunch following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to International Rotary Foundation c/o Loveland Rotary Club, to Mountain View Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice.

I was new to Loveland on 1978 and started a catering business, Country Catere. First National bank was my first business client. Mo graciously introduced me to Lovekand business owners attending a monthly luncheons in the board room. His encouragement was pivotal in my success .
