Donald Eugene McLemore, of Auburn, known lovingly as Don, Daddy, Papa, and Pop Pop, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, in Gainesville, Georgia, at the age of 93.
Born on June 29, 1932, in Marietta, Georgia, Don was the youngest of eight children born to Riley Newton McLemore and Lillie Belle Howard McLemore. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and four brothers, whom he often spoke of with deep affection.
A proud veteran, Don served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War from May 1953 to May 1955. After returning home, he began his career in the printing industry before later joining DeKalb County Parks and Recreation, where he worked faithfully for 20 years until his retirement.
In 1955, Don married the love of his life, Henrietta, with whom he shared 70 years of devotion, laughter, and partnership. Together they built a life full of family, faith, and love. Since 1988, they have called Auburn, Georgia, home.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Henrietta London McLemore; his children, Cindy Vance and Johnny McLemore; his grandchildren, Katie Vance (Jon Wilson) and Ethan Vance (Amber); and three cherished great-grandchildren - EJ, Byron, and Jack.
A man of simple joys and a generous heart, Don loved to travel, cut grass, and spend time with his family. He was a longtime member of Midway United Methodist Church in Auburn, where his warm smile and kind spirit touched many. Known for his hugs and knack for making friends wherever he went, Don never met a stranger.
A celebration of his life will be held at Midway United Methodist Church in Auburn, Georgia, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Debbie Carlton and Dr. Robert Hoffman officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
