Mr. Richard "Dick" Wade Mitchell, age 75, of Winder, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on June 3, 1950 at the home of his maternal grandparents in Mt. Alto, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Stanley Richard Mitchell and Freda Margaret (Click) Mitchell. He moved to Loudonville, Ohio as a toddler. He graduated from Loudonville High School in 1968 and went on to graduate from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
He was a member of ROTC and later served the United States in the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was stationed in Colorado, Maryland, Virginia, and Panama. After serving in the Army, he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service from which he retired in 2006. He moved to Winder in 1990. Dick enjoyed spending his time outdoors and was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed reading. His love for the Lord was a guiding influence in everything he did. He was a member of Winder First United Methodist Church and later attended Winder First Baptist Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his paternal grandparents, Bert and Willie (Quickle) Mitchell and his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Emma (Lute) Click.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-five years, Jennifer Mitchell; stepdaughter, Katie Pruitt; four grandchildren, Maci (Clayton) Keller, Kayla Gosnell, Abby Jo Gosnell, and Abel Gosnell; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Margaret (Gary) Bise of Mansfield, Ohio; nephew and family, Alan Mitchell Bise and Stephanie and their son, Oliver of Chardon, OH; niece and her family, Susan Elizabeth Bise Conley and Rich and their children, Adia, Cecelia, and Lucy of Pataskala, OH.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, 2025 in the Chapel of Maddox-Carter Memorial Home with Pastor Todd McCain officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 12:00 PM until the service hour at Maddox-Carter Memorial Home.
