Ellabell- Mrs. Venda S. Johnston Thomson, age 73 passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Mrs. Thomson was a native of Albany, Georgia but was a long-time resident of Ellabell. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, having received her Master’s in Education. Mrs. Thomson loved teaching second grade at Lanier Primary School and retired with over 25 years of service there. She loved traveling, especially to the mountains, eating out and shopping. Mrs. Venda was a founding member of Eldora Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lou Smith and her grandfather, Joe Henry Smith.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Wilton S. “Pat” Thomson, Sr. of Ellabell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scooter and Sherry Thomson of Ellabell and Dusty Thomson of Ellabell; one brother, Joe Johnston of Savannah; one sister, Becky Pevey and two grandsons, Warren Thomson and Landon Thomson.
Visitation will be held 12:30 -3 P.M. Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the funeral home.
A Funeral service will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 21, 2024 in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home with interment to follow in Lower Black Creek Cemetery.
