Mrythan Dermont "Murray" Defa

On Sunday, December 10, 2023, at age 87, Mrythan "Murray" Dermont Defa passed away peacefully at his home in Salt Lake City due to complications of Alzheimer's.
Murray was born on January 13, 1936, in Duchesne, Utah to Andrew and Calista Defa. He married the love of his life Marvel Giles on September 17, 1955, and they shared many wonderful moments together.
He was fond of woodworking and glasswork, at one point owning a glass company. When he was not taking weekly trips to Wendover with his wife, that they very much enjoyed, you would see him supporting all his grandchildren in their various activities. He was a man that loved spending quality time with his family and always looked forward to holiday get-togethers and playing a good game of pool. He would spend countless days making his favorite Italian waffle cookies, pizzelles. Murray was a man of many things, but most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Murray is survived by his loving wife Marvel Defa, sons Guy Defa, Scott Defa, Val (Toni) Defa, and Dermont (Michelle) Defa, brother Basil Defa, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by son Kip Defa and parents Andrew and Calista Defa.
A viewing will be held for those who would like to express one final goodbye to our dear Murray on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 1:00pm-2:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3750 N 37900 W, Tabiona, Utah 84072. A graveside service will follow at 2:30pm at the Tabiona-Redcliff Cemetery located at 5050 N Tabby Ln, Tabiona, Utah 84072.
