MSG David Arnold Robinson (US Army Retired), died on Sunday, August 6, 2023. David loved his Lord, family, church, community, military service, and Belmont High School Class of 1952. Few knew David and even less truly understood him. David possessed a real sense of humor; was direct but kind, intense but fair, bright and sincere but foolish, committed, loyal, generous, and loving. He had low regard for mendacity, unreliability, and ignorance born of closed mindedness. He had a special softness for the elderly. David espoused and revered conservative and Christian values. David's passing will leave an unfilled void in the minds and hearts of all those who knew him personally.
David is the son of the late General Lee and Margaret Chapman Robinson, and was the husband of a beautiful and loving wife, the late Betty Cavender Robinson. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Griggs; and two sisters, Eunice Skelton and Geraldine Stafford.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Burch Robinson of the home; his son, David A. Robinson, II of Myrtle Beach, SC; his granddaughter, Madison 'Maddie' Robinson Sirbaugh (Josh) of Conway, SC; a brother, Max Robinson (Brenda) of Belmont; sister-in-law, Patsy C. Ward of Gastonia; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at South Point Baptist Church, 124 Horsley Ave., Belmont, North Carolina. Pastors Mike Phillips, Flay Allen, and Jerry Pendleton will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont. David's family will greet guests from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour, at the church, on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Adult VI Class of South Point Baptist Church; Alexander Memorial Baptist Church, 208 S. Main St., Belmont, NC 28012; or to the Belmont Historical Society, 40 Catawba St., Belmont, NC 28012. Condolence messages may be sent to the family by visiting www.woodlawnfuneral.org. Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly is caring for David's family.
