ROCKINGHAM – On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, MSGT Allen Franklin Maree USAF RET, 89, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his bedside.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 10, 2025, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
Allen was born October 23, 1935, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late James Edward Maree and the late Bessie Jane Butler Maree. He was proud of his upbringing in the Wade Mill community and cherished the long-lasting friendships made there.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force and made a career that would last 21 years, 8 months and 28 days. He was stationed in San Antonio, TX, Morocco, North Carolina, Germany, Washington, DC, Thailand during the Vietnam War serving with a Fighter Unit, Florida, England, and Turkey. In 1966 he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, and he retired in 1977 while stationed in Turkey.
Following retirement from the military and returning stateside, he worked for 11 years with the North Carolina Department of Corrections and Pilgrams Pride, retiring there in 2016.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his children, Linda Levine (Robert) of Wadesboro, Gaye York of Rockingham, and Eleanore Tarbell of Colorado Springs, CO; his step-daughter, Tina Medlin (Danny) of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Krystle Rigsby (Jason) of Wadesboro, Dallas Levine (Cayce) of Cary, Kyle Levine of Apex, Shane York (DeShana) of Anchorage, AK, Tina Tarbell (Rick Dennis) of Colorado Springs, CO, Thomas Tarbell (Trisha) of Johnstown, CO and Donna Schleeter of Hot Springs, AR; his step-grandchildren, Jarvis Medlin and Christina Horner both of Charlotte; his 12 great-grandchildren, his 1 great-great-grandchild and his brother, Claude Maree (Vivian) of Wadesboro and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elfriede Staffel Maree, his second wife, Chris Edwards Maree; his grandchildren, Daniel York and Michael Tarbell, and his brothers and sisters, James Maree, Thomas Maree, Magdeline Williams, Pauline Pope, Bessie Faye Gregory and Pansy Baker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N US 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
