Murali Krishnan, age 57, of Sunnyvale CA, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, with loved ones by his side. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Vaishali (Deoskar), his daughter Aasha (16) and son Manoj (13), and his parents Krishnan and Anna.

His unexpected and far-too-early demise, due to a sudden and unexplained cardiac arrest suffered while bicycling on July 26, leaves a chasm in the lives of his family, friends, co-workers, and others with whom he interacted in his many interests and activities.

Born on December 11, 1967, in Salem, India, Murali was the cherished only child of Dr. K. Krishnan and Annapoorani (Subramaniam). Raised in Maryville, Illinois, Murali attended University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, receiving a B.S. in Computer Engineering, Honors (1991) and an M.S. in Computer Science (1993). He then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to embark on his 32-year career in software engineering, beginning at Lockheed Martin, followed by stints at several start-ups, and ending with over 13 years at Apple.

Murali built a full life centered around friends and family. He was a devoted father to Aasha and Manoj, who thoroughly enjoyed raising his children, being present in their activities, and spending time and effort nurturing their interests. He was a dedicated son and husband who supported family and friends both near and far. He was his family's pillar of strength.

His benign demeanor belied his intensity of thought and passion, which became obvious upon engagement with him. His many interests included art and foreign films (which he delved into as an online film critic in the late '90s), and more recently, cooking and wine appreciation. His passion was cycling, spanning over 20 years, including achieving the California Triple Crown designation the year Aasha was born (completion of at least three 200+ mile rides in official CA cycling events in a calendar year), numerous century rides, completing "STP" twice (Seattle to Portland), as well as countless rides with friends and family. He eschewed cars whenever he could and always felt free and unchained, alive and present, while on his bike.

Murali was larger than life in the quietest way - smart, thoughtful, intellectually curious, incredibly hard-working, and responsible. His not-so-quiet boisterous laugh brought smiles, his Dad jokes and silly antics brought grimaces, and his thorough embracement of being a nerd, well before it became fashionable, ultimately charmed.

He was so very much loved and will be greatly missed.

I´m so sorry that I only now received the terrible news of Murali´s passing, after the funeral service has taken place. I am just stunned at the news. I feel so fortunate that I got to spend four years working alongside Murali - his combination of curiosity, humility, humor, and empathy made him a role model for the kind of person we should all strive to be. I´m sure I share everyone´s inner feeling that a great injustice has been done in this world that Murali has been taken from it so prematurely, because he was such a source of joy and kindness to everyone. In communicating with the others who worked with Murali at Krillion, it is a universal sentiment that Murali was one of the nicest people we´ve all ever known. My heart goes out to Vaishali, his kids, and his entire family, and I just wanted to let you know what an impact Murali made on so many of us.

With my most heartfelt condolences -
