Saint Martinville, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Murphy John JeanBatiste, Jr., 77, will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church (201 Gary Street) with Rev. Abelardo Gabriel S.V.D., Celebrant officiating.
He will be laid to rest at Saint Michael Cemetery in Saint Martinville, LA with Military Honors rendered.
A visitation will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday, December 16, 2023, beginning at 7:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 A.M.
A resident of Saint Martinville, LA, Mr. JeanBatiste transitioned from labor to reward at 12:23 P.M. on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA
Murphy was a devout Catholic who was a parishioner at Notre Dame Catholic Church. From 1967 to 1969, Murphy proudly served his country faithfully in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. In the capacity of a U.S. Army honored Veteran, Murphy was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He worked for J.B. Talley and retired from the City of Saint Martinville Public Works after 10 years. He was an avid extraordinary carpenter and concrete worker.
He enjoyed the finer things of life which included jazz music, luxury sport cars, sports and drinking his beer. Being a classy dresser, Murphy right out gained the nickname "Cool Cat". Murphy was loved by his family and friends.
He leaves to cherish his fond memory, his loving wife: Clara Tyler JeanBatiste of Saint Martinville, LA: one stepdaughter: Monica Tyler Batiste (Stephen) of Saint Martinville, A; two brothers: Hank Williams of Saint Martinville, LA and William Charles (Linda) of New Iberia, LA; 4 grandchildren: Lakeya Perrodin, LaKaysha Batiste, Keyvon and Kayvon Batiste; 4 great-grandchildren: Braylon Perrodin, Landon Perrodin, Blake Perrodin, Jr., and Laithan Perrodin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father: Murphy JeanBatiste, Sr.; mother: Josephine Miller; one son: Murphy JohnBatiste, III; three sisters: Marion Savoy and Geneieve James; three brothers: Wilfred Batiste and Weldon Batiste.
Active pallbearers are Kayvon Batiste, Jayvan Batiste, Blake Perrodin, Jaden Collins, Jaylon Collins, and Ron Beauchamp.
Honorary pallbearers are Stephen Batiste, William Batiste, Wilbert Orphe, Damien Linzer, Michael Batiste, Hank Williams, Kerry Durand, and Henry Savoy, Jr.
