Murray Newlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel - Knoxville on Feb. 11, 2026.
Dr. E. Murray Newlin, 80, passed away on February 8, 2026, surrounded by love. He is survived by his loving wife, Kit Whitner Newlin; his daughters, Melissa Newlin Standifer and Katherine Rebecca Newlin; and his beloved grandsons, Brent Andrew Tucker, Caleb William Standifer, and Noah Benjamin Standifer. He was also blessed with great-grandsons, Judah Benjamin Tucker, Phillip Callahan Tucker, and Charles Andrew Tucker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Elisabeth Newlin, in 1996.

Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, Dr. Newlin practiced dentistry in his hometown for 43 years-a profession he truly loved. He found great joy in caring for his patients and serving his community, and many considered him not just their dentist, but a trusted friend. Following what he thought would be retirement Murray returned to dentistry at Ft.Benning, GA. taking care of the new recruits. His final stint was in Carrollton, GA at the Trinka Davis Veteran's Village as head of the dental department. He really loved taking care of the vets and it was one of the most meaningful parts of his career.

Above all else, Murray cherished his family deeply and showed that love every day. Outside of his practice, he enjoyed turkey hunting and fishing, finding peace and happiness in the outdoors. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of East Tennessee. If you would prefer to mail a donation, please mail it to: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Tennessee, 5401 Kingston Pike, Suite 230, Knoxville, TN 37919.
