After a courageous four-year battle with cancer, Mylon Allan Coauette passed away in his home under the care of his wife and Hospice of The Red River Valley, on December 8, 2024, at the age of 80.
Mylon was born to Winifred and Lucille (Jolly) Coauette, November 14, 1944, in Crookston, MN. He was raised and attended Crookston Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1962. In 1977, he married Patricia (Ness) Coauette in Sisseton, SD, and they built a life together for almost 5 decades and raised their 3 children.
In 1962, Mylon moved to Van Nuys, California, where he began working for General Motors. He remained with the company until 1971. However, his career was temporarily interrupted when he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Airborne from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, Mylon resumed his work at General Motors before eventually returning to Crookston. Upon his return, he joined Fertile-Flow, also later becoming Terra in Crookston, where he worked for 28 years. He also worked for Eickhof Columbaria and for Northern Paving until his well-deserved retirement in 2009.
Mylon enjoyed gardening, fishing, and watching sports on TV. He will be remembered most for his strong will, his stubbornness, and his ability to always speak his mind with honesty and conviction.
He is survived by his loving family: along with his wife Patricia Ness Coauette, son Mark (Jo Ann) Coauette from Virginia Beach, VA, daughter Michelle (Rob) Gutierrez from Norfolk, VA, and son Mitch from Crookston, MN. Siblings; Richard (Faye) Coauette from Fort Mill, SC, Ken (Sherry) Coauette from Bemidji, MN, Vickie (Ken) Borg from West Fargo, ND, Ron (Carol) Coauette from Mentor, MN, Randy (Susie) Coauette from Crookston, MN, Bonnie (Bill) LaPlante from Battle Lake, MN, Tim (Robynn) Coauette from Crookston, MN, and sister-in-law Judy Coauette also from Crookston, MN. In-laws Kathy (Skip McGarvey of Devils Lake, ND, Mark (Catherine) Ness of Chicago, IL, LuAnn (Bronk) McAlister of Harcourt, IA, Bob (Luana) Ness of Brookfield, IL. He was the grandfather of nine grandchildren and great-grandfather to five great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wilfred and Lucille (Jolly) Coauette; his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Gayle (Peltier) Coauette; his brother Duane Coauette; daughter-in-law, Mitch’s wife Peggy Hetland Coauette; parent-in-law Marge (Benarz) Ness and Gerald Ness.
Mylon's Celebration of Life will be held June 20, 2025, at 3:00pm at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN. Visitation with family will be one hour prior, with a private family interment after the memorial.
