In Loving Memory of Myra Lynn Echt

At the heart of Myra’s life was her beloved husband, Charles—known by some as Chuck, many others as Charlie, and always to her as “the love of my life”. Together, they built a marriage filled with happiness, world adventure, and devotion. Their partnership was a true love story, one that carried them side by side through life’s joys and challenges. Though Charles preceded her in death, Myra carried his memory as her constant companion, and their bond continues to inspire all who knew them.

Myra was a devoted mother of Greg (Susan), Audrey (Bradley), and Jeff (Julie), and the proud grandmother of Daniel, Alexander, Henry, Abraham, Eva, and Elizabeth. Myra is survived by her brother, Michael Seigel. Family and friends were the center of her world, and she delighted in every gathering, holiday, and milestone. Myra’s warmth, outgoing personality, and generosity created a group of friends where all felt welcomed and cherished.

Myra was born in Detroit, Michigan, and spent her early years in Chicago and Springfield, IL, before moving to Indianapolis, which would become her home for over 65 years. She graduated from Shortridge High School and matriculated at the University of Illinois before meeting Chuck and spending the first years of their marriage in Casablanca, Morocco, as the wife of an Air Force physician. Myra and Chuck then settled in Indianapolis, where they built their lives together.

A lifelong lover of culture, gardening, and travel, Myra spent many years as a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, sharing her passion for art with visitors and friends. She found joy in organizing and nurturing her garden for hours at a time, embracing new cultures and bringing home collectable “treasures” from her travels around the world. Myra played tennis and golf for decades at the Broadmoor Country Club as well as being a big sports fan! Whether cheering on our beloved Hoosiers, Colts, or Pacers, at home, on the road, or on television, Myra loved the energy and excitement that sports brought to her life, our family, and the broader community.

Her Jewish heritage and her deep sense of belonging to the Indianapolis Jewish community were extremely important to Myra. She treasured the traditions and friendships that came from her involvement in Congregation Beth-El Zedeck. In turn, Myra instilled in her children and grandchildren a connection and commitment to the Jewish community.

Myra will be remembered for her devotion to family, her love of art and culture, her adventurous spirit, and her boundless energy. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she tended, the many friendships she cultivated and maintained, and the generations she inspired.

Funeral services will be on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, 600 West 70th Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46260, at 2:00 pm; burial will follow in Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery. To view the funeral livestream, CLICK HERE.

Shiva will be held at 3538 Inverness Blvd. Carmel on Sunday, beginning at 4:40 pm.  There will be a shiva period again on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
