Myra Louise Locklin was born on June 10, 1932, to James Burrell and Armetta Locklin, in Dothan, Alabama, and passed away in the wee hours of October 20, 2024. Depending on the timeframe of when you met her, you might have known her as Myra, Sis, or Louise. Myra was raised by her aunt and uncle, Whit & Ollie Land, after the death of her mother, Armetta Locklin, when mom was just five years of age. She affectionately called them Momma and Daddy and she was raised in Alford, Florida.
Myra was an amazing seamstress. She could sew absolutely anything. She made most all our clothes while we were young, wedding dresses, pageant dresses, and all types of formal wear. Myra made quite a few baton twirling costumes, clothes for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, welder's hats and a variety of stuffed animals, as well as purses and tote bags. Myra also expanded her sewing into quilting. There's no telling how many beautiful quilts were made by Myra. In fact, while Myra was here visiting just last month, she gave a tub full of handmade baby blankets and bib cloths to the church for the new mothers.
Myra worked at many different places over the years, starting with the old Piggly Wiggly in Niceville, Bill's Dollar Store, TG&Y and, later, as a cashier at the Commissary on Eglin AFB. She met lots of people along the way, many of whom became life-long friends.
Myra married Eugene Standland on February 19, 1949, and from that marriage was blessed with six wonderful children. JoAnne, Larry, Judy, Jay, Sonya and Brenda. Later, Myra met the love of her life, Wilber E. "Skip" Langston, and they were married on September 6, 1969. He was a wonderful (and very brave) man to marry a woman with six children! A few years later, he legally adopted Judy, Jay, Sonya and Brenda. The family settled in Choctaw Beach where she resided for over fifty years.
Myra was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber E. Langston, her parents, her brother, Johnnie Burrell, her daughter, JoAnne Duke, and her granddaughter, Brianna Botts. She is survived by her children: Larry Standland (Clyde), Judy Bernard (Paul), Jay Langston (Tammy), Sonya Hart (Joe), and Brenda Langston. Myra was blessed with fifteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren (with another on the way), and twelve great-great grandchildren (with another plus another due soon).
Services will be held at Heritage Gardens in Niceville. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 28th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be on Tuesday, October 29th at 1:00 p.m., followed by interment at Early Cemetery.
Paul Bernard and Tom Johnson will be officiating the funeral. The pallbearers are Jeff Bernard, Stan Standland, Jr., Seth Standland, Anthony Smoot, Brody Baughman and Ayden Nutter.
After the services, the family will receive friends at the Hart residence located at 727-B Valparaiso Parkway in Valparaiso, Florida 32580.
