Myra Lockie Obituary

Myra Teena Gutierrez Lockie, of Stansbury Park, devoted Native American mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on September 2, 2025.

Myra was born on June 27, 1955, in Tooele, Utah, and was lovingly adopted as an infant by Joe L. and Rosalie Gutierrez. She was Native American and of Pueblo and Pima heritage. Myra attended Tooele schools and graduated from Tooele High School in 1973. She earned a BS degree from Brigham Young University in 1979. Her college education was briefly interrupted by marriage and raising her small children, but she persevered and completed her degree, as education was deeply important to her.

After college, Myra began her career as a management intern with the U.S. Army. After completion, she embarked on a 33-year career in Human Resources Management, serving in various roles across the Army, Air Force, National Guard and Logistics departments. Her work took her all over the United States and Europe. As her job required extensive travel, Myra vowed never to board an airplane again and spent her retirement focused on her home, church, family, and road trips. She never missed an opportunity to support and attend her children's and grandchildren's activities.

Myra was a true-blue fan and enthusiastic supporter of BYU. Traveling to home and away games with her dad, attending BYU programs, watching various men's and women's sports on TV, and supporting alumni activities brought her great joy in life. As she would often say, "Go Cougs!"

For decades, Myra was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since age 15, she served in one church position throughout her life - playing the organ and piano for church meetings, funerals, and weddings. Myra was thrilled when her grandsons showed interest in learning how to play the piano!

Very few people knew that Myra was adopted as an infant. At age 60, she was excited to find and meet her birth mother and family.

Myra is survived by her sister, Geri McQuistin; her children: Ramsay Bryan, Garis Bryan, Nash Lockie (Brooke), and Teena Lockie Wall (Tyson); eight grandchildren: Jade Thompson (Austin), Ethan, Jarom, and Ezra Bryan; Norah Lockie; and Isaiah, Luke, and Miles Wall; and two great-grandchildren: Brady and Avley Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Rosalie Gutierrez; 7-yr old son, Jarom Bryan; her brother: Joseph Gutierrez; her sister: Jan Abugarbieh; and her brothers-in-law: Mac McQuiston and Stan Cavis.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Stansbury Lake Ward, 5899 N Bayshore Drive, Stansbury Park, UT 84074. Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery.
