Myra Arnetta Sloan, 101, went home to be with the Lord October 5, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 28, 1924 in Reedy, WV to Stephen and Ada (Young) Starcher and had been an Akron resident for the last 81 years.
She was married for 65 years to the love of her life, Billie, and together they owned and operated Sloan’s Produce and Market on Manchester Road. Myra and Billie were also devoted members to the church family at Akron Baptist Temple. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was the biggest supporter and cheerleader of her children and their families, including her son, Jerry (Joyce) Sloan; daughters, Virginia Robison and Becky (Bill) Rogers, of Sarasota, FL; her seven grandchildren, Matthew (Larissa) Sloan, Beau (Carrie) Sloan, Jay (Jamie) Robison, Andrew Robison, Amanda (Christopher) Doyle, Will (Erin) Rogers, and Jessica Rogers; great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Foos) Rogers, Michael and Zoe Robison, Atticus and Peyton Sloan, Jerri and Quincy Sloan, and Joseph and Joshua Doyle; sister, Hope Humphrey; and sister-in-law, Jane Ruth Davis.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Myra’s niece and caregiver, Amanda Young, as well as the staff of Crossroads Hospice.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305 with Rev. Ernie Kemppel officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 a.m. with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive. Suite E, Uniontown, OH 44685.
