Tony, Denise and Kevin,
We only realized this morning after seeing Denise quoted in the Spartanburg newspaper that Myra Thompson was formerly Myra Quarles our neighbor for four years on Rutledge Avenue while my wife Dr. MJ Black was in med school at MUSC. While we were horrified by this senseless crime before, now we are heartbroken for her family. Myra was a good friend and great neighbor and we all became much closer helping each other recover from hurricane Hugo. I know she was a great mother and role model to her children. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we will reach out to you when we are in Charleston. We always made a point to visit Myra when we were there but it has been a few years since we saw her. Take care and God Bless.

To the Family of Mrs. Myra Thompson:
The Zucker Family School of Education at The Citadel is deeply saddened over the loss of our alumna.
Mrs. Thompson received two graduate degrees in Education from The Citadel: the M. Ed. in Reading Education and the M. Ed. in Counselor Education. She was a true exemplar of the ideals of the education profession and The Citadel Graduate College. I am touched by the many accounts of her loving service to people as a pastor and educator.
Memories of good people last an eternity. I know that the name Myra Thompson will evoke good sentiments for years to come as people reflect on a lady of faith who always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
The senseless act that led to her death and the loss of our other eight community friends will be greatly overshadowed by the outpouring of love from a community who appreciates real heroes like Myra Thompson.

Myra received her Master's degree in Reading Education and I was her advisor at The Citadel. I remember so well her wonderful personality and smile. I will always remember her and how so very much she was interested in helping children when she was a teacher. As I recall she later returned to The Citadel and received another master's degree. I always knew she was a missionary to others.

I last saw Myra at Emanuel about a year ago and we embraced and talked for a while. When my son's Mother(Jewell Meggett) died in 1987 she sent me card with a note expressing her condolences. You have given your sweet Myra. She will have eternal life. I think that is important. My family have watched and been so proud of your family: Faith and trust in Christ. There has been so much swirling around it is so hard to keep up with what is right. Y'all know what is right.
I lived in Charleston 5 years ago in Ansonborough. I know your beautiful Church Family. Although I do not know you personally, please know your extended Charleston family Loves and is praying for you.
Together there will be change. Your best example will set the stage for HUGE change. Please know, we love you and hate you are having to deal with this. No family should deal with this.
Your loss is bringing the whole country together, but no family should have to endure that to make change.
