Myralon, 77, of Woodbridge, VA, passed away on October 8, 2025.
Myralon was born in Newbern, NC, to Robert Lawrence Sanders and Julia Mae Sanders on December 17, 1947. She Graduated from Johnston County Central High School in Smithfield, NC. She married Lieutenant Joseph Jacob Simmons IV, United States Army, on January 12, 1974, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Washington, DC. She earned her Bachelor of Arts (Business Management) from the University of Maryland and her Master of Science (Human Resource Management) from National-Louis University, a testament to her dedication and intellect. She worked as a Multi-Media Specialist in the Visual Information Services Branch, Strategic Planning and Information Directorate, for the Defense Information Systems Agency. Mrs. Simmons began her Federal Service work in 1970 and retired in 2013.
As a military spouse for over 30 Years, Mrs. Simmons was a beacon of selflessness and dedication. She assumed numerous roles, from being a loving spouse and mother to serving as the Military Family Support Coordinator during four overseas assignments (12 years) and during Colonel Simmons' Command of the White House Communications Agency (4 years). She also took on leadership roles such as President of the 3rd Infantry Division, Military Wives German/American Club (1989 - 1991); Manager of Leighton Barracks Thrift Shop (3 years), and Unit Morale, Welfare and Recreation Outreach Program Representative. Her passionate commitment to the well-being of others and her willingness to share ideas and resources within the military communities in which she resided resulted in her receiving the United States Army Europe's highest community service award (The Soaring Eagle Award).
Myralon is preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. Sanders and Julia M. Sanders; Sisters, Deanna D. Sanders and Veronica Sanders; and brother, Gerronnie Sanders.
Myralon is survived by her husband, Colonel (Retired) Joseph J. Simmons IV, Sons, Jacob Simmons and Jonathan Simmons, and Granddaughter Noelle J. Simmons.
Memorials may be given to St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church at 1244 V Street SE, Washington, DC 20020.
