Myrna Boyd Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Myrna Elaine Boyd, who went to her eternal rest on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the age of 87.
Myrna was born in Port Maria Bay, St. Mary, Jamaica, the daughter of the late Cleveland Belgrave and Othella Brown, and attended Port Maria All Age School. As a young girl, she moved to Clerendon and then to Kingston to live with family after her mother passed, and graduated from Trenchtown Comprehensive High School. Myrna worked as a seamstress at a clothing factory before accepting an offer from the Jamaican Ministry of Health, where she was trained to become a Health Care Worker. She was stationed at Denham Town Health Center until 1979, when she migrated to Hartford to make a better life for her family. In Hartford, Myrna was a private housekeeper and worked as a Health Care Professional at St. Mary Home, retiring after over 28 years of service. While at St. Mary, she also had another full-time job at night to provide for her family. Her strong work ethic and drive inspired her family to be the best they could be every day. Myrna's faith was strong, and for over 25 years, she was a devout communicant of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford.
Myrna was an amazing woman whose life revolved around her family. She loved unconditionally and taught her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the value of faith, family, their Jamaican heritage, discipline, respect, treating others the way you would want to be treated, and the importance of building, living, and maintaining a stable lifestyle. Myrna was a wall of support and helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the bright lights in her life. She enjoyed celebrating their life events and supporting their dreams. Myrna was welcoming to everyone, her door was always open, and she would give you the shirt off her back or the last dollar in her pocket if you needed it. She loved to laugh, was known for her sneeze, and had a smile that would light up a room.
Myrna was a talented seamstress and loved to cut from her own patterns. When she was younger, she made most of the clothing for herself, her children and her grandchildren. Myrna was also a phenomenal cook and was especially known for her perfectly cooked fried dumplings, rice and peas, curried goat, chicken, and fish, and her freshly made carrot juice, and beet juice, a talent she passed down to her grandchildren. She loved to travel to Canada, Florida, and Jamaica to see family and enjoyed sightseeing with her family in Pennsylvania.
Myrna leaves a legacy of beautiful memories that will live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Myrna leaves to celebrate her life, her children, Claudette Bardowell and her husband Gladstone of Sunrise, FL, Orlando Nicholas of Islandia, NY, and Maurice Douet of Broad Brook; her grandchildren, Denise Morris, Alecia Campbell, Makeda Gamble and her husband Karl, Joshua Nicholas, David Douet, and Jediah Douet; her great grandchildren, Kayla Campbell, Alden Green, Arianna Campbell, and Nile Gamble; her siblings, Faith Belgrave-Eubanks, Marcia Belgrave-Wauchope and her husband Roderick, and Christopher Belgrave and his wife Pauline; special friend, Valerie Nicholas, who was like a sister to her; her extended family and primary caregivers, Jennifer White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Annette Belgrave-Logan, Hedley Ellis, and Hugh "Ruddy" Lewis.
Her family would like to extend a very special thank you to her home care providers, Lyneve and Bernice, and Masonicare Home Health & Hospice care team, aides, nurses, social workers, therapists, and the ministry staff, for their loving care, compassion, and support given to Ms. Myrna and her family in their time of need.
Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17, 10-11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave., Hartford.
Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
